With many years in retail in both store and Head Office, retail is a sector I am very comfortable in. Retail is a very challenging environment to be in, with both the current economic climate, Brexit and relatively low unemployment. It’s the perfect storm of fewer quality employees who, once you bring them on board, can quickly become demoralised by the challenging environment, pressure and long hours that retail brings. Never has there been more demand on employers to nurture the talent they have and look at ways to stand out from the crowd in terms of providing a positive and engaging working environment. And yet, for many, this still is not a priority.
